Reviews of Riverbend

Gregg/ staff, the experience has changed in positive ways this year due to your leadership and delightful execution of resident and guest-friendly updates and treatment. Kudos to each of you- your hard work and professionalism is noticed and appreciated!!To make even better the sign-in process is a bit lengthy now; perhaps some of the screens can be consolidated? Also have experienced errors preventing sign-in. Last thing is the printed sticker falls to the floor- could a catching bin be attached?Again, aside from minor tech issue- the experience is noticeably better and that doesn’t happen without consistent focus and hard work! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!Stephen Bishop(Happy Son)read more

Signing in and out is easier from my last visit. Staff was friendly. Was walking with my mother in law. The staff was curious to who I was. I was happy to know they watch the residents and ask questions.

Wow it was awesome! Kelly Pfeifer the Sales Specialist that helped me and took me on a tour was fantastic, she was so informative and helpful that I definitely am moving in! Also the lady from the office( sorry didn't catch her name) was very helpful also! And I had a long wait on my ride to come pick me up so they provided me with a great lunch and drink! Just like having a loving family 👪 which is the way we should be treated in our Golden years! Thank you God for this place and it's employees! My mom spent the last year and a half of her life in the memory center after being at home became unsafe.I’m a legal nurse consultant and I researched memory centers in the area and decided upon Riverbend. The Magnolia Hills Memory program is the best. April plans wonderful activities for the residents. My mom received love and respect while living there. She was able to garden which was one of her favorite things. One of the most important reasons I chose Riverbend was because mom would be able to stay in the environment she was used to and Hospice was wonderful, she was able to die with dignity and it’s hard to ask for more than that.Several staff attended her visitation, it’s clear that most of the staff are working there because they have a heart for caring for people With dementia.read more

We decided to keep Mom at home a little longer and not place her in an assisted living memory care facility at this time. Karen the Marketing manager told us that Mom would get the community fee refund in August 2022. I’ve been in constant contact with her and in November she referred me to the business manager Brittani. Brittani tells me that corporate has to issue the check. It’s been four months. Please investigate and get Mom her refund. Also they WIIL NOT return phone calls you have to always call them. Basic customer service 101 always return phone calls even if you don’t have the answer. It’s just common courtesy and good customer service. Makes me wonder how they care for the residents that are in their care.read more

Staff will make you wear a mask while theirs are hanging off one ear or down on the chin. Residents will lie and say you cannot park in a handicap spot or they will straight up insult your daughter about how she is dressed!!read more

They put me on the street for trying to get them to understand what they were saying was wrong. I stood up for myself when I knew I was right and my sobriety didn’t mean anything to them then. If you want to go live off corn dogs and hot pockets and be talked to like a child then this is the place for you.read more

Dan Fink who has given a great review for a place that he was the administrator for at the time. Wow. LowI am one of those people as well. I will leave it there. What I refuse is knowing what the truth is vs what is actually being told about I don’t want to be lied to or about just as I would not do that to anyone myself so I just expect to be treated with the same and that being truthful about me. TIA.read more

Perhaps, things have changed.... My wife and I placed her step mother, afflicted with dementia, in this facility in November of 2019. Given the negative reviews, we weren't inclined to even visit the facility, but we did. Most families have few options and that's our situation. But we didn't observe any of the offenses documented in other reviews. That's not to say they aren't accurate. The comment from "Elizabeth G" about the courtyard might be true as we didn't see one. And as for the events, we observed movies, a church service, several meals and an evening of bingo. Of course, most of the residents, including my mother-in-law, don't benefit from the events due to their condition. In speaking with the staff, everyone has been professional and friendly. We live 600 miles from Riverbend, and have only been there five times since November. However, since Christmas, we've hired my niece, a nurse, to visit weekly for checking up. She would generally concur with this positive assessment and my mother-in-law seems to be happy and enjoying her new neighbors, even if she can't (sadly) remember names. We did visit other facilities and the only thing where Riverbend is a bit lower than their competition is cosmetic. Many areas could use new paint, wallpaper and carpet. But the little kitchen and bathroom are in fine condition and the housekeeping staff do a fine job. We also found the rent to be competitive. All this to say that maybe some of the negative reviews of the past are worth ignoreing.read more

Be aware when it comes time to place a family into a care facility. My sister and I did our research. We toured the faculty. We talked to family member of previous residents(most from many years ago)When we met with them we were told of all the wonderful activities to keep their minds active. Of the lovely courtyard where they could enjoy some fresh air and they even sometimes planted flowers. After she moved there, what I saw was very little I interaction with the residents by staff. The staff sit in a room and observe the residents through a glass wall, as if they were in a prison. They say there are activities all day for the residence to keep their mind active. This is not true. They have a calendar of events but these are frequently canceled. The say say they there a courtyard for the residents to enjoy and even garden. But it is almost always locked. When my mother would ask to go outside, they refused. Telling her that the didn’t have the staff to accompany her. They would give my mother a sleeping pill at 7 pm and put her to bed when the sun was still up. When I ask them to do that later in the evening, the response was “I will put it in her chart” but nothing changed. She was frequently up wandering at 2-3am because she went to bed too early. I ask that when there was actually an activity, for them to let her know and show her where to go. I again got “ we’ll put it in her chart”. But nothing changed. My mother constantly complained of being bored. Eventually she started having attention seeking behaviors. Instead of working with her to keep her entertained they wanted her medicated. I wrote an email to the management about my concerns regarding her care. I told them that they were not providing what we were promised before we moved Mom there. The response was they would look into it and get back to me. They never did. They gave medication, they insisted on, one day to work . When it didn’t they insisted(we initially refused) on sending her to a geriatric psych unit to adjust her medications. There her care was even worse. She only lived at Riverbend for 2 months. Before she moved to Riverbend she was physically fit and active for her age. She was always going to activities and exercise classes when she lived at Westminster. All her problems stemmed from Alzheimer’s. Which is why we moved her to a facility that specializes in memory care. Now we are burying her on Thursday.read more
